Say Cheese
When the clock was 17:30 and I was still sitting at the
coffee shop I didn’t want to rush out of the city and try to find somewhere to
sleep. I had a lot of problem finding my way in to the city so I didn’t want
that this evening. So I found a very nice hostel called “Say Cheese”.
What took a lot of time in the coffee shop was editing a new
video, so hopefully I will be uploading it tonight.
Back by the river
I had a great time in Berlin, but it felt god to leave the
traffic of a big city and be out on smaller roads again. I continued down south
to Elbe and spent two days cycling along the river. I felt great to be back at
the river where I knew I could find great places to set up my tent. It’s not
allowed to camp by the river, but as a guy a met one morning said: no one cares.
Yesterday I left Elbe and went west towards Leipzig. I was
able to find a camp site by a river last night to. A smaller river called
Mulde. Not as nice as Elbe, but then what is=)
I have had many nice meetings with people curious about my journey.
The other day when stopping for water at what I later found out was a museum I was
not allowed to leave until I had seen everything in there. The man working
there did not understand or speak any English. But we managed anyway somehow to
understand each other and after a complete tour around the museum a got some
water. These last days the weather has been a little colder and there have been
a lot of wind. And of course it’s been a head wind.
Today I’m in Leipzig and it won’t be long now until I leave
Germany for Czech Republic.

Ich bin ein Berliner
After about three hours at coffee shop in Potsdam I cycled
on closer to Berlin and at about 6 pm I found a great place by the Havel. It
was better than the first place I checked out where a couple was having sex en
the beach. And I thought it was a little inappropriate to set up camp next to
them=)
And this morning I woke up early and was ready to take on
Berlin. I was expecting it to be very difficult cycling in to this big city,
but it was actually very easy and I only had to follow the signs with bikes on
them. So I was here at about 10 and had a whole day sightseeing around Berlin.
The weather was very warm today, at about 30 degrees. And I there was tourists
everywhere. But I saw the sights here and was absolutely exhausted in the
evening. So after seeing the Olympiastadion I went back in to the center and
checked in to a hostel for the night.

Wonderful days following Elbe.
After leaving the wonderful Michaelis family I set my sight on Elbe. Towards Elbe I followed The Elbe canal which. It was great to cycle right next to the canal all the way to Lauenburg. The first night following Elbe I found my own little beach to sleep in end for the next three nights I would find similar places. So except for the weather day two on my Elbe tour and had a wonderful time with great bike roads.
The problem I had was a little incident with an old man in a
car that ran into me. It’s not as dramatic as it sounds. I was cycling along
the bicycle path and the car was going to cross it and turn right. But the man
only thought he had to look one way before driving out so he hit my back
pannier. A kept my balance but was nudged out into the road, but luckily there
was no car coming the other direction. I guess I have to be more careful and
expect that drivers don’t always see me. Because even if it’s their fault, I’m
the one that is going to get hurt.
After leaving Elbe yesterday I thought I could get close enough
to Berlin to take it easy the next day and see Berlin. But I misjudged the
distance a bit and I had headwind almost the entire day. I’m having some
problems with my GPS right now because of some reason the detailed maps in an
area around and in Berlin are missing. But I guess it’s a good thing to learn
not to trust technology to much. So
after doing about 90 km yesterday I decided to stay at a little lake outside
Götz. And that was a great decision because I could take it a little slower
today and get some coffee and internet time here in Potsdam.

Waking up in a warm bed
Yesterday after staying almost two hours at the coffee shop
in Lübeck I made my way south and thought about cycling for a while and to find
somewhere to sleep near a lake around Mölln. And a found a great place where I
took a dip in the lake which was a little wormer the sea that I have been bathing
in for the last days. During dinner I met Axel, a great guy who himself cycled
around the world in the eighties. So we had a lot to talk about, and it ended
up with him inviting me to stay at his house about 12 km from the lake. So I
had a wonderful night last night with god food and great company. And it was
amazing and inspiring to listen to all the stories from his great adventure.
